Harvard professor George Lyman Kittredge (1860-1941) was Frances James Child’s protégé and successor, continuing Child’s gathering of folk stories and ballads and completing edits of Childs voluminous works by 1898. The Houghton Library at Harvard University includes collections of ballads and songs that Kittredge used in his folklore studies, and the Child Memorial Library also includes the George Lyman Kittredge Papers.
